Abstract
The ‘individualization of forms of life’: this concept, which is often used so casually, is in reality highly complex. I would like to begin by illustrating this with an observation made by Friedrich Schorlemmer, a theologian from Wittenberg, in 1993 after the collapse of the DDR.
Chapter 9 of this book has already been published in “Fudan Journal of the Humanities and Social Sciences 6(4): 61–73”. Mr. Beck received permission to re-print the information in this book.

Unpublished manuscript, Munich 2012.
- 2.
It would be more accurate to say that the figure of homo oeconomicus which became established along with the neoclassical, neoliberal global market regime is also creating a ‘Chinese relation’.
