Abstract
At various points in this book I have promised that our journey through Ethiopia and observation of her geological features will throw some light upon the questions of why and how a continent breaks apart. It is with some trepidation that I will try to honour this promise, and I must warn the reader that at least as many questions remain unanswered as are resolved.
