Abstract

The wrist is composed of three joints: the distal radioulnar joint, the radiocarpal joint, and the mediocarpal joint. Under physiologic conditions, there is no communication between the three joint cavities. The actions of the radiocarpal and mediocarpal joints are complementary, the former being responsible mainly for extension and ulnar deviation (adduction) of the wrist, the latter for its flexion and radial deviation (abduction).
