Abstract
Gold-catalyzed alkylation of amines by alcohols was investigated. Biomass-derived terpenes containing an alcohol group (myrtenol and carveol) were converted via N-alkylation to develop compounds of interest for medicinal chemistry. The activity and selectivity of the mono- and bimetallic gold catalysts supported on various metal oxides were investigated. The product distribution and conversion were shown to depend strongly on the active metal component composition. Zirconia-supported gold was found to be the most efficient catalyst.
