Abstract
The increasing need for structural assemblies and components with a high strength-to-weight ratio has led to the development of composite materials and composite structures. Today, there is no technological sector where composite materials, and even advanced composite materials, are not used. This is because the directionality of their mechanical properties can be put to effective use in designing high-performance structures that would not otherwise be feasible.
