Abstract

It is important for visual accuracy to position the edge of the image precisely. There proposed a new kind of sub-pixel edge detection algorithm which is based on the fitting of gray gradient and hyperbolic tangent function. Firstly, the Sobel operator is used to extract the edge of the input image crudely. And the gray gradient direction is struck point by point by using the preliminary extracted edge pixels. Then the sub-pixel edge position is obtained through the least squares method using the fitting of the hyperbolic tangent function on the gray gradient of the edge of the image.
