Abstract
The basic premise of this chapter is that we have learned much more about building peace in the 20th century, through research and practice, than we normally tend to apply. Therefore, we will attempt an inventory of the available instruments for pursuing peace, Twenty-four peace ‘tools’ will be presented—two that were inherited from the 19th century, and twenty-two that have been developed in this century. Applying the concept ‘tools’ as a label for these twenty-four approaches can help to create a practical orientation toward their application.
