The lives of Galileo and Kircher cross each other in the summer of 1633, when the young Jesuit scholar is in Avignon and receives a long letter from Rome by his brother Christoph Scheiner, who tells him that he has written an essay, Prodromus de sole mobili et stabili terra contra Galileum, which is intended as the answer of the Catholic Orthodox party to the Dialogue concerning the two chief World Systems.
