Abstract
The present chapter gives a theoretical analysis of the forces acting on a cross-country skier at various course gradients. A formulae for the human power output for given endurance and athletic characteristic is also presented. In addition, numerous examples are calculated to explain the force balance on a skier on a flat, an uphill and a downhill ski course.
