Abstract

In this chapter you will learn how to create interactive interior design alternatives with ARToolKit. ARToolKit is a tool that helps you to combine specially adapted AR applications. However, using ARToolKit requires prior know-how, a basic understanding of programming in C++ and of the structure of a software application. Many of these issues will be dealt with in this chapter. The previous chapters have hopefully sparked your curiosity enough to devote yourself to this new project. This chapter is divided into the following sections:

  • Functions of ARToolKit 2.72

  • Introduction to Visual Studio C++ 2008 Express Edition

  • Compiling ARToolKit 2.72

  • Calibrating the camera and creating own makers

  • File structure, links and workflow

  • 3D modeling, texturing and VRML export

  • Interior design with simple VRML

  • Outlook and future research prospects
