Abstract

A modern school building should be open, airy, spacious and lively and have a well thought-out design. However, too often these ideas only remain wishful thinking. During the last decade, many schools have been transformed into objects that merely conform to educational construction regulations and do not take into account any architectural or design parameters. Hence, there is an increasing number of schools that do not really deserve to be called so. It is interesting, for example, that in the Gorenjska region during the past 20 years, not one single public competition for a new school has been carried out — while quite a number of new schools have been built. In principle, only architectural competitions can guarantee added architectural value.
