Zusammenfassung

Das Sehvermögen stellt neben anderen Sinneswahrnehmungen einen der bedeutsamsten physiologischen Vorgänge im menschlichen Körper dar. Nach wie vor repräsentiert die Therapie schwerer Störungen des Sehvermögens bis hin zur Erblindung infolge von Verletzungen und Prozesse am Sehnerven, eine große Herausforderung für die behandelnden Ärzte. Auf Grund anatomischer Beziehungen des Sehnervs mit Orbita, Schädelbasis, Gehirn und Nasennebenhöhlen wird die Therapie von Sehstörungen heute im interdisiziplinären Kreis von Ophthalmologen, Neurochirurgen, MKG-Chirurgen und HNO-Chirurgen diskutiert. In den letzten drei Jahrzehnten ist eine enge Kooperation zwischen Ophthalmologen und Rhinochirurgen in der Behandlung traumatischer Sehnerverletzungen entstanden.
