Abstract

The term hypomelanosis of Ito (HI) (OMIM # 300337) encompasses a heterogeneous group of disorders characterised by hypopigmented whorls and streaks following the lines of Blaschko (Taibjee et al. 2004). Blaschko’s lines represent a non-random developmental system of linear and/or whorled streaks first described in 1901 (Blaschko 1901) as a constant pattern of cutaneous markings characterising the distribution of various linear and segmental skin disorders (Bologna et al. 1994; Happle 1985, 1993).
