Schmerztherapie bei opiatabhängigen Patienten stellt Therapeuten oft vor beträchtliche Probleme. Konfrontiert wird man mit diesem Problem sowohl in Form von akuten, aber auch chronischen Schmerzen. Häufige Ursachen für akute Schmerzen sind Spritzenabszesse oder Kompartmentsyndrome, die oft eine sofortige chirurgische Intervention benötigen. Natürlich stellt die Schmerztherapie auch bei anderen, geplanten und ungeplanten operativen Eingriffen bei diesen Patienten eine Herausforderung für die behandelnden Ärzte dar.
