Der myokutane M.-latissimus-dorsi-Lappen wurde schon 1898 von Tansini für Defektdeckungen am Th orax beschrieben (Maxwell, 1980). Es ist der Verdienst Olivaris (1976), den myokutanen Latissimusdorsi-Lappen für die autologe Brustrekonstruktion etabliert zu haben. Allerdings besteht häufig ein so großes Volumendefizit, dass nahezu immer zum Ausgleich ein Implantat mit verwendet werden muss. In Kombination mit einem Implantat ist der Latissimus-dorsi-Lappen sicherlich das autologe Gewebe, welches nach wie vor weltweit am häufigsten zur Brustrekonstruktion verwendet wird. Dies mag zum einen durch die konstante Gefäßversorgung und sichere Durchblutung bedingt sein, zum anderen aber auch dadurch, dass keine mikrochirurgische Technik notwendig ist, um eine adäquate Rekonstruktion zu erreichen (Bostwick et al., 1978).
