Zusammenfassung
Bezüglich der Organisation stehen die Bryophyten zwischen den Thallophyten und den Pteridophyten. Sie sind überwiegend Landpflanzen und besitzen einen heteromorphen Generationswechsel. Die grüne Moospflanze ist der Gametophyt. Echte Wurzeln und echte Leitbündel fehlen gänzlich. Die Gametangien sind im Gegensatz zu denen der Thallophyten mehrzellig. Sie werden Antheridien (♂) und Archegonien (♀) genannt. Der Sporophyt lebt in keinem Falle selbständig, sondern «parasitiert» auf dem Gametophyten. Er besteht im wesentlichen aus dem Sporangium, dem Sporangienträger (Seta) und dem Fuss, mit welchem er im Gewebe des Gametophyten verankert ist.
