Zusammenfassung
Bäume oder Sträucher mit in der Regel gegenständigen, nebenblattlosen, ungeteilten oder gefiederten Blättern. Blüten meist zwittrig, regelmässig, oft auffallend gefärbt, in arm- bis vielblütigen Blütenständen. Kelch und Krone oft 4zählig, beide frei oder an der Basis röhrig verwachsen. Staubblätter meist 2, der Kronröhre eingefügt, wenn eine solche vorhanden; Fruchtknoten oberständig, 2fächerig, mit 1, 2 oder mehr Samenanlagen mit einem Integument pro Fach. Kapseln, Steinfrüchte, Beeren oder geflügelte Nüsse (Fraxmus). Samen mit oder ohne Endosperm.
