Zusammenfassung
Tryptophan und Tryptamin sind gute Chimonanthin- und Folicanthin-Vorstufen (1, 2); auch das Calycanthin mit Tetrahydrochinolinringsystem entsteht aus Tryptophan (3). Für Calycanthus occidentalis wurde ebenfalls Harmin nachgewiesen (4), und die Struktur des Chimonanthins wurde eindeutig bewiesen (5). Früchte von Calycanthus floridus verursachten in Tennessee verschiedentlich Schaf- und Rindervergiftungen; hauptsächlichstes Toxin ist das Samenalkaloid Calycanthin (6).
