Summary

Surgery is indicated when certain requirements and prerequisites are met, and these are addressed in this chapter. For internal derangements at different stages as well as osteoarthrosis, a therapeutic spectrum is available, including arthrocentesis, arthroscopic lysis and lavage, refined arthroscopic surgery, and open joint surgical methods. Arthroscopy is the first modality of choice for surgical treatment because it combines the possibility of exact disorder staging with a therapeutic effect in a considerable number of patients.
