Summary
In clinical and imaging studies, an increase in range of motion, improvement of joint function, and reduction of pain was observed after lysis of adhesions and lavage of the superior temporomandibular joint compartment. The successful surgical outcome can be explained by the effects of washing out mediators of pain and inflammation, improved mobility, and adaptive mechanisms rather than restoration of disc position.
