Summary
Arthrocentesis is an efficient and simple procedure performed under local anesthesia, and has proved to be highly efficacious in releasing severe closed-lock. Biologic mechanisms for the efficacy of arthrocentesis are discussed in this chapter. A treatment protocol, including arthrocentesis in conjuction with occlusal appliance therapy, is suggested.
