Abstract

The recent advances in computer hardware/software and the Internet have opened new channels of communication: e-mail, bulletin boards, voice mail, the World Wide Web(WWW), Internet chat/phone & Internet video conferencing/clips. The University of Newcastle is the first University to offer a postgraduate distance education (DE) award course using both traditional mode and via the internet. The students are continuously monitored for their performance and interaction. We have found that the Internet is a secure, reliable and adaptable method for course delivery which allows more interaction than traditional modes of DE.
