Abstract

Radiation doses (RD) to fingers, eyes, and whole body of the medical staff during 17 angiographic applications of I-131-Lipiodol in 11 patients with liver malignancies were assessed. An automatic injector reduced the high finger dose of 20 mSv / application to 5 mSv but yielded contamination problems. A new developed special container reduced the finger RD to < 10 μSv. Additional radiation protection equipment resulted in a significant dose reduction to the eyes from 90 μSv to < 5 μSv and to the whole body from 120 μSv to 20 μSv.
