Als Mittelland bezeichnet man das liebliche Hügelland zwischen Alpen und Jura. In Taleinschnitten und Steinbrüchen sind nur Gesteine der Tertiären und Quartären Perioden aufgeschlossen, Mesozoische oder noch ältere Formationen sind nur aus Bohrlöchern bekannt.
