Abstract

The systemic injection of cytokines and related peptide is being used therapeutically with increasing success in animal models of inflammatory diseases. However, its applications are limited, because of the need for large amounts of purified proteins and the short-lived effects of these proteins. As described in the chapter by Evans and Robbins, this volume, gene transfer strategies offer novel possibilities for overcoming these limitations.
