Abstract

In gynecological practice the use of methotrexate was confined to the treatment of malignancies until 1982 when the first report of the use of methotrexate to treat an interstitial pregnancy was reported [1]. Since that time the use of methotrexate to treat tubal, cervical, and interstitial pregnancies has become widely accepted and practiced in many centers around the world. In addition, methotrexate has been used to treat pregnancies implanted within a uterine scar and in patients with placenta accreta. However, in this chapter we will limit the discussion to the use of methotrexate in the treatment of ectopic pregnancies.
