Abstract
An international panel reflects on three areas: communication between science and society, education, and imbalance in the world between the generation of knowledge in the North and its application in the South, where easily-accessible forms of traditional technology and indigenous knowledge are valued. Transdisciplinarity can allow for integrating the two views and grappling with the complexity, interconnectiveness, turbulence, and rapidity of changes being experienced on local, regional, and global levels.
