Abstract
In this chapter we introduce the quantized enveloping algebras Uq (g) for arbitrary semisimple Lie algebrasg obtaining results which generalise those we proved for g = sr2 (k) in Chapter I.4. The role of binomial coefficients in the presentations of these algebras is taken by a q-analogue of binomial coefficients, which we begin by defining. As before, q denotes a nonzero scalar in our base field k.
