Abstract
For many purposes, especially in representation theory, the primitive ideals of a ringRare more important than the general prime ideals. In other words, one may be more interested in primRthan in specR, although knowledge of specRmay be very helpful in determining primR.In this chapter and the next, we discuss the structure of primRand its relationship to specR.
