Abstract
Biodiversity, biotechnology and culture are individually contested and intricate concepts. Any discussion which seeks to explore their conjunction risks compounding the complexity. Nevertheless, this nexus is a real and important one as the terms routinely impact upon one another in the lifeworld beyond the academy and policy-making environments. I argue that, thus far, the relationship of culture to biodiversity and biotechnology has been largely neglected in the orthodox field of public understanding of biotechnology.
