Zusammenfassung
Meist krautige Pflanzen mit ungeteilten gegen- oder wechselständigen Blättern. Blüten meist auffallend gefärbt, oft gross, regelmässig oder seltener zygomorph, zwittrig, einzeln oder in traubigen Blütenständen. Kelch und Krone frei, in der Regel 4zählig, dem Fruchtknoten oder der darüber hinaus verlängerten Blütenröhre aufsitzend; Staubblätter in gleicher oder doppelter Zahl wie die Kronblätter, am Rande der Blütenröhre inseriert; Fruchtknoten unterständig, ein- bis mehrfächerig mit wenigen bis vielen Samenanlagen mit 2 Integumenten. Kapseln, Nüsse oder Beeren. Samen ohne Endosperm.
