Zusammenfassung
Der Nobelpreisträger Richard Feynman sagte einmal, ein Physiker, der subatomare Zusammenstöße in einem Teilchenbeschleuniger analysiert, unterscheide sich nur wenig von jemandem, der mit aller Gewalt Uhren aufeinanderprallen läßt, um aus den Bruchstücken abzulesen, wie sie funktionieren. Diese boshafte Bemerkung gilt ähnlich auch für Neuropsychologen. Auch die Neuropsychologie ist eine indirekte Wissenschaft, in der man sich Aufschluß über zerebrale Schaltkreise erhofft, indem man ihr Verhalten untersucht, nachdem sie beschädigt wurden — ein ähnlich unbeholfenes Verfahren wie der Versuch, die Funktionsweise einer Uhr aus der Untersuchung von Hunderten kaputter Wecker zu erschließen.
Ein Bild zeigt Einstein, ausgestreckt, den Kopf von einer Vielzahl elektrischer Drähte umgeben: Man registriert die Wellen seines Gehirns, während man ihn bittet, an die Relativitätstheorie zu denken.
