Ist es möglich, zu vergessen, wieviel 3 – 1 ergibt, wohingegen man noch vierstellige Zahlen schreiben und lesen kann? Können Sie sich vorstellen, daß Sie die Zahlen miteinander multiplizieren können, die auf der rechten Seite einer Wandtafel stehen, aber nicht die auf der linken? Und ist es schließlich möglich, daß ein normalsichtiger Mensch versagt, wenn ihm so einfache Aufgaben wie 2 + 2 schriftlich gestellt werden, sie aber leicht löst, wenn ihm die Zahlen vorgelesen werden?
Die wahre Idee vom menschlichen Geist ist es also, ihn als ein System unterschiedlicher Wahrnehmungen oder unterschiedlicher Seinsformen zu sehen, die durch die Beziehung von Ursache und Wirkung miteinander verknüpft sind und einander gegenseitig erzeugen, zerstören, beeinflussen und verändern. (Chwr(133)) In dieser Hinsicht kann ich die Seele besser als mit allem anderen mit einer Republik oder einer Staatengemeinschaft vergleichen, in der die Mitglieder durch die gegenseitigen Bande der Staatsverfassung und der Subordination vereint sind.
