Summary
Schizophrenia and affective disorders are supposed to involve neural systems for information processing and biogenic amine transmission. In this context functional neuroimaging has been widely accepted for detecting possible cortical impairments. In our present study we performed functional neuroimaging using 99m Tc-ECD SPECT for a paradigm on smooth pursuit eye movement and compared the results with resting patterns. Saccadic intrusions were monitored during an electronystagmographic examination. Reduced neuroactivaton during smooth pursuit eye movement in subjects with an elevated rate of catch up saccades was found in centers of the frontal lobe (FEF). This might indicate an impairment of higher cortical motor control.
