Abstract
So far simple model problems were used to investigate the numerical methods. In this chapter we now introduce some larger, more realistic problems which are used later on as verification problems for the proposed numerical methods and the computer program. In the first part the mathematical fluid model is presented. This part also serves as background for the next chapter on finite element models. In the second part three problems with simple geometry are analyzed: The two-dimensional reservoir model, the rectangular and the semi-circular channel. For all problems reservoir bottom absorption is included and the dam is assumed to be rigid. For the two-dimensional problem also some commonly-used simplified models and boundary conditions are analyzed. The comparison of the analytical with the numerical results follows in Chapters 10 and 11.
