Abstract
This chapter is devoted to a thorough analysis of contractive one step intertwining liftings. This analysis will play a very important role in the following chapters in the commutant lifting theorem and interpolation problems. An application of this theory to the Carathéodory interpolation problem will also be presented in Section 3.
