Abstract
The study of fossil pollen and spores has become one of the most important techniques for the reconstruction of palaeoenvironments, especially during the Quaternary. The interpretation of fossil pollen assemblages in terms of vegetation can, however, be seriously affected because of over- or under representation of pollen taxa. It is, therefore, of paramount importance that accurate assessments are made of recent pollen production, dispersal and deposition in the wide surrounding vegetation of a study site.
