Summary

The elastinolytic activity of two human lung tumor cell lines as well as human alveolar macrophages isolated from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of patients with different lung diseases was calculated by digestion of 3H-labeled elastin. In the case of the tumor cell lines differences in the elastinolytic activity as well as in the ability of the cells to be stimulated by nicotine were detected. From the different lung diseases macrophages of sarcoidosis and emphysema patients showed the highest elastinolytic activities.
