Zusammenfassung
GeorgCantor wurde am 3. März 1845 in St. Petersburg geboren. Sein Vater GeorgWoldemarCantor hatte dort im Juni 1834 unter der Firmenbezeichnung “Cantor & Co.” einen Kommissionshandel eröffnet [3, Nr. 36]. Ab 1838 führte er das Geschäft allein, widmete sich dem Überseehandel mit Segeltuch und Tauwerk und war später auch als Börsenmakler tätig. Georg Woldemar Cantor war ein sehr erfolgreicher Kaufmann; er brachte es in den 11 Jahren seiner geschäftlichen Tätigkeit auf ein beträchtliches Vermögen von etwa 500 000 Goldmark.
