Abstract

The word drug in this review has been used in line with the classical concept, i. e., a substance possessing a pharmacological effect particularly on the mammalian organism. It is only through a planned and careful evaluation of this effect during years of preclinical and successful clinical studies that the effective substance finally becomes a therapeutically useful drug.
