Abstract

Seven years ago Schlittler, Druey, and Marxer [207] reported on antihypertensive agents in a previous volume of this series. Since this review appeared, research in the field of antihypertensive drugs has made steady progress. Although spectacular breakthroughs — exemplified by such pioneering feats as the discoveries of reserpine, hydralazine, guanethidine, and chlorothiazide — have become less frequent, a number of important new developments have occurred.
