Abstract

One of the major consequences of angiogenesis research has been that it has led to new technologies that can aid many areas of science and medicine. In addition, a variety of biomedical technologies that are being developed can be used to aid in the understanding and quantification of the angiogenic response in vivo. There are a number of chapters in this book which deal with the exciting advances of biomedical technology as it relates to angiogenesis. These advances generally fall into three major areas: 1) drug delivery systems, 2) biomaterials and artificial organs, and 3) new imaging methods. Each of these areas is discussed below briefly as a prelude to the chapters in this book.
