Zusammenfassung
Seit der ersten Auflage des Werkes ist bei den Hormonen der Wirbellosen eine außerordentlich rege Forschertätigkeit eingetreten und dementsprechend ein beträchtliches Wachstum unserer Kenntnisse. Die früher oft vertretene Meinung, daß die Hormone eine Eigenheit der Wirbeltiere seien, besteht nicht mehr zu Recht. Von den Protozoen angefangen sind beinahe bei sämtlichen Tiergruppen der Wirbellosen Hormone nachgewiesen. Da manche Gruppen, wie die Echinodermen, in dieser Richtung noch ganz unerforscht sind, andere, wie die Anneliden oder Mollusken, erst am Anfang der Erforschung stehen, kann mit großer Zuversicht behauptet werden, daß die Zukunft hier noch viele Neuentdeckungen bringen wird.
