Abstract

There is controversy as to the mechanism of transmission of excitation from cell to cell in vertebrate myocardium. Some of the electrophysiological data support the hypothesis of a simple electrical syncytium (one-, two-, or three-dimensional) and some support the hypothesis that there is no DC electrical coupling between contiguous myocardial cells.
