Abstract

Order and evolution are not identical and absolute qualities of nature but rather complementary aspects of nature as it reveals itself to the inquiring man. This thesis is corroborated by an analysis of the history of the notion of species as well as by a refutation of the scientific claim that a unique order, produced by ordering mechanisms of evolution, must necessarily be hypothesized to exist.
