Abstract

Using a differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), Formation of solute clustering or the Guinier-Preston Zones(G.P.zones) and intermediate precipitates in a supersaturated copper-rich Cu-Be alloy has been studied. It has been found that the process of precipitation in Cu-1.9wt%Be alloy includes at least 4 stages depending upon ageing temperature and time. These stages are attributed to the formation and reversion of the G.P. zones(or G.P.(l)zones), and stepwise formation of the intermediate γ″(or G.P.(2)zones) and γ′ phases and then the equilibrium γ phase.
