Abstract
The experimental details of the reaction of ammonia gas with cleaved chrome alum surfaces, as studied by thermal methods and optical microscopy are described. The impossibility of obtaining reliable kinetic parameters for this reaction from thermal curves is ascribed to the presence of other surfaces beyond the cleavage one. On the grounds of thermal and microscopic results a possible sequence of events explaining the observed behaviour is suggested.
