Zusammenfassung
Die Fabrik- und Werkfeuerwehren, in Basel lange Zeit « Privatfeuerwehren » genannt, sind so alt wie die Pompier- oder Feuerwehrkorps. Die älteste Werkfeuerwehr ist wohl diejenige der Porzellanfabrik in Saargemünd (Elsass-Lothringen). Es folgen die Feuerwehr der Maschinenfabrik Karlsruhe (1846) und die Ettlinger Fabrikfeuerwehr, gegründet im Jahre 1852.
