Abstract
Protoplast fusion methodology has been used to produce inter and intraspecific heterokaryons from a large number of plant species. Although this is a potentially useful tool for the transfer of genetic information, the selection of heterokaryons from the homologous fusions and unfused protoplasts which are also present is a frequent problem (1). One successful method has employed the use of amino acid analog resistance complementation in the selection of fusion hybrids.
