Abstract

Somatic hybridisation offers the possibility of bypassing interspecific/inter generic incompatibility. Selection for hybrids frequently employs visual identification of heterokaryons and their isolation and culture. Heterokaryon identification is based on morphological differences between the parental protoplasts.
